Langebaan Home Designs
Designing a new home is a completely different experience
to renovating an existing home.
While the idea of creating a dream home from scratch can be exciting, it also comes with many challenges that are often underestimated.
Many homeowners end up with a house that is much larger than they actually need or feel comfortable living in. This can lead to disappointment, higher maintenance costs, and sometimes the decision to sell the property sooner than expected. It’s important to remember that bigger doesn’t always mean better. A well-designed, practical space is far more valuable than simply adding more rooms or square meters.
Clients should take time to imagine how they will live in each area of the home. That’s where a skilled designer plays a key role—helping to guide decisions, refine ideas, and ensure the final result is both functional and enjoyable to live in. Designers provide essential feedback and can help balance ambition with reality.
In many cases, renovating an existing home can be more cost-effective than building a new one. When you build from scratch, there are many hidden expenses to consider—like garden landscaping, perimeter walls or fencing, security systems, driveways, and all the interior finishes. These are often already in place in an existing home and can be upgraded rather than installed from new, saving both time and money.
Whether building or renovating, it’s essential to make informed decisions and work with experienced professionals. For those considering property in Langebaan, where lifestyle and comfort go hand in hand, choosing the right approach can make all the difference between a house that simply looks good and a home that truly feels right.
Flensborg House
A French country style
A French country style is what Wendy Holmes, the owner of this quaint home, wanted to achieve. An Architectural Designer and the owner of Living Design, she developed the concept and house plan for the home.
“We wanted our home to have different textures in the finishes, hence the exposed brick walls and steel beams. The house had to be warm and welcoming, with as little wasted space as possible, and that is why there are no passages,” she says.
Wendy Holmes, the owner of Living Design, took on the task of planning her own home. The result is a beautiful view of the golf course and dam, yet a home that offers privacy from the neighbours. With access to the patio and garden in summer, this home is a home owner’s dream.
